CASE STORY

Nargis Akhtar: Proving Disability is Not a Hindrance

Nargis Akhtar's journey took an unexpected turn when she became visually impaired at the age of six. But, with unwavering determination, she pursued her education.
In Dhaka, Nargis found a supportive community at Jagarni Disability Women's Parishad. There, she learned about the rights of women with disabilities, gender equality, and feminism.
Despite facing employment challenges due to a lack of computer skills, Nargis persevered. She gained computer skills through training and secured a position as a storekeeper at Arang. Nargis is also working towards her degree, now able to fund her education and support her family.
Nargis expresses her gratitude to the National Council of Women with Disabilities, Manusher Jonno Foundation, and Gender Affairs Canada for their support. Her story inspires us to continue empowering individuals to achieve success on their own terms.
